Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal called the West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. It is often believed that it is an island west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 feet 1 inches tall. When I surpassed my male counterpart then I slowed down. Some former dancers switch to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school that led her in the right direction. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for the school's annual show. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Through the years since Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most attention when she landed the role as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. The only Canadian actor.
